Egypt represents one of the most significant growth opportunities for Irish exporters in the Arab world over the coming years. In its latest economic review, Egypt 2026–2030: Unlocking Ireland’s Export Potential, the Arab Irish Chamber of Commerce (AICC) outlines why this dynamic market should be a strategic priority for Ireland.

With a population of over 120 million people and more than 60 percent under the age of 30, Egypt is the largest Arab country by population and the second largest economy in Africa. Its strategic position connecting Europe, Africa and the wider Arab region, combined with rapid urbanisation and infrastructure development, continues to drive demand for high-quality imported goods and services.

A Strategic Market for Ireland

Egypt is currently Ireland’s third largest Arab export market, accounting for almost 8 percent of Ireland’s total exports to the Arab region. Merchandise exports to Egypt reached €169.9 million for the period January to September 2025, representing a 5 percent increase on the previous year.

Key Irish export sectors showing strong performance include:

  • Medical and pharmaceutical products

  • Dairy products and birds’ eggs

  • Fish and seafood

  • Essential oils and related products

  • Broader agri-food exports

Ireland now exports over 6,000 tonnes of cheese to Egypt annually, underlining the scale of opportunity in the agri-food sector.

In addition to merchandise trade, Ireland’s service exports to Egypt are substantial, totalling €1.14 billion, representing around 8 percent of Ireland’s total service exports to the Arab world.

Diversification in a Changing Global Landscape

The report highlights the growing importance of trade diversification for Ireland in light of global geopolitical shifts and volatility in key markets. As Ireland seeks to broaden its international trade relationships, Egypt stands out as a high-potential, large-scale market with strong long-term fundamentals.

Egypt’s expanding population, rising urbanisation and growing middle class are driving sustained demand across consumer and industrial sectors. From agri-food and pharmaceuticals to specialised machinery and industrial inputs, Irish exporters are well placed to compete.

Reducing Barriers and Improving Market Access

A central focus of the report is ease of market access. The recognition of AICC certification by Egyptian authorities represents a significant step in modernising export processes. Through its advanced online certification system, the AICC enables Irish exporters to certify documentation quickly, securely and in full compliance with regulatory requirements, delivering estimated time and cost savings of approximately 25 percent compared to traditional methods.

This streamlined approach, combined with market intelligence, translation services and expanded customs technologies, helps reduce administrative friction and supports Irish companies entering or expanding in the Egyptian market.

The Opportunity Ahead

Egypt’s scale, strategic location and sustained demand for high-quality imports make it a priority market for Ireland through 2026 to 2030 and beyond. By focusing on high-demand sectors, building strong in-market partnerships and leveraging efficient certification processes, Irish exporters can significantly strengthen their presence in this key Arab economy.

The AICC’s report provides detailed trade data, sector analysis and practical guidance for companies seeking to grow their exports to Egypt.
